The system would freeze quite often for a minute or so, then eventually the hard disk lit is "on" indefinitely such that system reboot is required.

    Error Report as noted:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: atapi
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 9

    Description:
The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period.

Appreciate very much any help to solve this problem

What happens if you run in PIO mode?

Have changed to PIO mode for device 0. There is another device 1 on PIO mode already. I only have one HDD. Question: What is this other device?

Noticed that the CD-ROM drive has its own separate listing.

Will report consequences after a period of observation.

    Thanks.

The atapi errors recurred twice this morning and starting at 2:12PM, it is occurring every 2 minutes or so.

Read the article. Since it's largely a hardware issue and my computer is still under warranty, I'll have the vendor check on it.
Thanks a lot for the assistance.
