I just restored a Compaq Celeron (533Mhz/64megs) Presario for a retired little old lady, using the system restore disks that she still has.
I tried installing spyware blaster4.1 and adaware2008 free and neither one will install, even though they supposedly are compatible. Also, I already heard that AVG won't run under Win98SE.
Can anyone recommend some basic protection that is free and will work under 98SE?
I read some of the other threads about this subject, but am hoping for the latest and newest word(s).
    Thanks.

And Adaware 2008 works only for NT class OS's 2K 2K3 XP etc!

Serarch out Adaware SE for 98.

Spybot 1.5 is 98 compat and I think also 1.6.

Adaware SE updated a couple of weeks ago on a clients computer?

    But there are others yes!

its a problem now with 98
support is being dropped for some products - adaware for example
for adware - spybot is fine and works on 98 ( still)
you may be able to get an older version of adaware at old version com
www.oldversion.com and be able to replace the update file - not sure- that is the defs file

avg 7 is still taking the updates - but they are threatening / warning every day that soon....

you should be able to get it at oldversion.com

    try avira /antivir

Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

You have too run Avast for AV, and for a firewall, go to Oldversions.com and get Zone alarm v.3.7 , There are also updates at Majorgeeks.com and some fixes.
