    basically i got a awesome computer given to me
    and i got this when i spent hours working to get all my good stuff in it.
    <windows root>\system32\hal.dll courupted file. now i tried everything to software to trying who knows what and it wont work. does anyone have a genuine answet to my dreaded prob.?

    Another suggestion which may not be included in the URL mickzer posted ....

    Boot to the Recovery Console from your XP CD - retail not recovery and run the command ....

    bootcfg /rebuild
