I have a computer run with Windows XP. I just fresh install Windows XP as a single OS. I have a problem with standby and hibernate function. Many times Windows XP will hang when the system automatically go to standby mode or when I put it on hibernation mode.

The display on the monitor is "preparing to standby" or "preparing to hibernate" and my computer stop at that. Afterwards, nothing I can do but restarting. Anyone get an idea?

FYI, motherboard : Asus with onboard sound and video,
    processor: pentium 4 1.8
    DDR 256 MB,
generic CD ROM, Yamaha CD Writer
    HDD Seagate 40 GB.

    Thanks

Check that APM is enabled in Control Panel, Power Options. Check the other options there, as well.
Have you changed any services from automatic to manual or manual to disabled or automatic to disabled?
