After installation of the IE Tab extension on a WinXP Home SP3, FF3 system, all other extensions (NoScript, Adblock Plus) will not run. I have removed IE Tab and tried to find any remnants in Fire Fox. I have uninstalled and reinstalled other extensions in Safe Mode with no success. Obviously IE Tab is not compatible with FF3. Any suggestions for repairs? Thanks.

    Welcome to the Forum, richstan!

    richstan,

Download the IE tab from the link below and try to install by opening the Add-ons window, and dragging the xpi file from your HDD to the Add-ons window. I found this information on the IE Tab Support Forum.

    ietab-1.5.20080618-addons_936.xpi

    Ramona, thanks for your response.

I downloaded and installed the xpi file as suggested. The addons extensions panel after a FF# restart showed a successful installation and I could access the options. But none of the extensions appeared to be running, no icons, tools menu or status bar information. After a number of FF restarts and finally a Windows restart, all extensions appeared to be running, icons in appropriate places. Until I opened and closed the IETabs options menu. Then all extension icons disappeared.

I've uninstalled IETabs, Adblock Plus, and Adblock FiltersetG. Still have NoScript 1.7.6 and AVG Safesearch 8.0 (latest from AVG) installed. NoScript is not running. Can't tell with AVG Safesearch.

I've done a RegSeeker search for IETabs, didn't find anything.

I've updated Java to Update 07. Have two Jave files in FF Program Files, Extensions file - Upgrades 03 and 07. Both upgrade files are in my user Application Data, Firefox, Profile, extensions.ini. Don't know if this is a conflict.

My goal, at this point, is to remove all traces of IETabs from system and to have NoScript, Adblock Plus and AVG Safesearch running and stable.

Do we have a Plan B? Thanks.

I would be more suspicious of the two AdBlock add-ons. I've seen a lot of reports of problems with users of AdBlock, but few with IE Tab.

Uninstall your JRE.6.0_03, as having more than one version installed can cause conflicts.

Since you have totally uninstalled IE Tab, I have no further suggestions. You might try an email, or a PM to the developer on the support site.

The only Java version installed is jre 1.6.0.07. This file "CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0003-ABCDEFFEDCBA" is in the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Extensions folder, with a similar 0007 file. Both files are indicated as extensions in my user Application Data, Firefox, Profile, extensions.ini. Should I remove the 0003 file from the Firefox extensions folder?

I have removed the two Adblock Plus add-ons from my existing profile and will clean all references from About:Config, Registry, etc.

I started another profile with only AVG Safe Search, which I disabled. I then downloaded the NoScript 1.7.6 xpi and installed it. When FF restarted, the NoScript welcome page loaded so it appears to be a good installation, but NoScript is not running.

In a previous thread "Firefox" already running ", member JSS3rd offered an option to remove Firefox User files and Registry items and let Firefox recreate them. I wonder if this might work. Or, in the worst case, unistall Firefox, clear the registry with RegSeeker and delete all related files then a clean reinstall.
And be very careful with add-ons.

Thanks for your help. Will let you know if I find anything short of a reinstall.

Information for your extensions are in the Profiles directory. Don't mess with the extension folder in C:\Program Files.

This is the folder where I found my IE Tab extension information:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.profilename\extensions\{77b819fa-95ad-4f2c-ac7c-486b356188a9}\

If all else fails, and since you created a new Profile and still had the problem, then you might try installing Fx again, removing all Registry keys. I would make a backup copy of the Firefox directory before uninstalling. I'm referring to the Firefox directory located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox

When you start installing add-ons remember to restart Firefox after each installation. Otherwise the extension won't work! I have been assuming that you have done this, right?

    Right.

It looks like "its time to bite the bullet" and uninstall Firefox, clear registry entries and then do a clean reinstall of latest version. Will probably limit extensions to NoScript and another try with IE Tab.

    Thanks for your help.

    Ramona:

Reinstall of Firefox after uninstall including personal data (after backup of course), deleting Program Files\Firefox folder, and clearing all Firefox registry keys eliminated the problem. Everything works. Life is good.

Lesson learned: No more "over the top upgrades. "

    Thanks for your help.

Excellent that "life is good ". :D

A clean install simply can't be beat, and your Profile is always safe, as long as you make regular backups...
