I am cleaning out my Win XP hard drive and using wipe software where there are no files before selling the machine. There is in Outlook Express 6, under Address Book, on the left side a folder "My Real Name Contacts ". I want to delete this or rename this folder to do away with my full name showing. I have tried but get the message "Can Not Delete ".
Please advise if I can delete, or should reinstall OE. I tried OE6 reinstall and get a message a later version is installed.
Please advise if I should install Internet explorer 7 and if so would it clear the problem?
I have the Retail version of Win XP SP2 Update with key etc. that was used on the initial update. Should I reinstall??

    Thank you

Search the drive for *.wab files - these are your Address Book files and delete them - with OE and all other programs closed. Should do the trick.

If they will not delete in Normal mode try Safe Mode.

Installing IE 7 will not do the trick - all the existing OE/IE6 info is retained.

I would not contemplate a reinstall - a repair would retain your info. There are ways and ways of deleting files - give the first suggestion a shot and post back.

Thank you Pete. I tried but the file Hans.wab will not delete. Under My Real Name Contacts there are no Email entries. In address book there are no Email entries. Just the MRN Contacts folder that I want to get rid of.

Tried to delete in Safe Mode, my name w/admin rights and also under Administrator name.

Any other things I might try?

Try MoveonBoot - if that does not work one or two more programs in the armoury :)

That didn't work? I don't think it is a file I think it is a folder (contact folder that would contain Email addys). I have Regseeker perhaps I should do a search for my name and see what comes up?
I appreciate youir help and hope I am not wasting your time.

Is this a folder you created or was it created by some other software?

I created it. The original owner was a Hans, I got the computer with ME and Upgraded to XP. I then added myself with Administrator priviledges and in OE added a folder My Real Name Contacts.
I tried to add a another, formated HD as master and then Install XP but didn't work. I think the CMOS or whatever may be set for Raid or something I don't understand.
What I have done is make sure all Emails are deleted from the unwanted folder, I would guess that my name will just have to appear. I have looked in Registry and my name is not there.

I thank you for your help and if I can't replace the HD I will may have to the sell the computer without one.
