    Hi all,
    I have been trying to send an attachment through netscape 7.2 email on a windows xp machine. Every time I click on the attachment button it just sits there with the hour glass. No error message, nothing at all, it just doesn't do anything. Anybody run in to this before? Everything else works fine. :confused:

    Thank in advance

    drc,

    If you use email scanning, in your antivirus program, try turning that feature off and see what happens.

    Still the same. I can attach a web page, but not a file. When I try to close the attachment window, the whole Netscape program closes. Maybe a reinstall is in order?

    drc,

    Do you keep current on maintenance, i.e., clear cache, history, and empty your C:\Windows\Temp folder, and Recycle Bin.

    Edit | Mail & Newsgroups

    Select DISK SPACE, under the tree for your mail account, then UNcheck the box that limits attachment size. Shouldn't make a difference on SEND, but worth a quick test...

    Add this to the prefs.js file:

    // Send attachment as attachment
    user_pref( "mail.content_disposition_type ", 1);

    Check your firewall to ensure it isn't blocking the attachments

    In your Mail Account folder, delete all files with an MSF extension. Do not delete the files without the MSF extension, as they contain your messages/mail.

    Let us know if any of the above help...

    Hi Ramona,
    Thanks for your help so far. Tried your suggestions, but no luck yet. I did notice that in another profile in Netscape, the attachment button works fine.

    Maybe that will help you find the cause?
    Take care
    Don

    Don,

    If the other profile is for the same version of Netscape, then try this:

    rename your prefs.js file to Xprefs.js
    The file is located in your *.s (salted) folder.
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Netscape\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt

    Copy the prefs.js file from the "other profile" and paste it into the problem profile, and see what happens.

    Before you start the edit make a backup copy of the entire Netscape Profiles folder. Create a folder for this purpose, e.g., C:\Backup

    Your problem still sounds to me like a Firewall or AntiVirus blocking problem. Try holding the <ctrl> key, and then pressing the add attachment tab. Maybe that will work for you.

    Well, I found the problem.

    It seems that the network directory that the last Attachment came from no longer exists. Using the about:config option, I located the mail.compose.attach.dir and found it pointed to a folder that no longer exists. When I deleted the location, everything started working again.

    Thank you very much for your help, Ramona. I really appreciate it.
    Take care
    Don
