When including sound as background on an email, does it have to be a MIDI file?

And how can you convert a WAV file to a MIDI file?

    Windows XP . O.E.

Thanks to all you experts out there.

    Thanks PeteC for reply.

I've downloaded the wav.to midi converter. Thanks for that.

I am one of the few left, still on dial-up, and sending a WAV file with an email takes for ever, and once, really mucked up my OE!! That's why I thought a MIDI file would be better. However, MIDI files are instrumental only, am I right?

Is it possible to just send a section of a WAV file. Or can you reduce a WAV file in anyway.

    Thanks again.:D

Yes, go to your Sound Recorder (Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder) and you can open a WAV file and chop it up if you like. I'd suggest you first copy the original WAV file and play with the copy instead of the original. There are other third party programs that will let you do the same thing.

As to reducing the size of a WAV file, you can convert it to an MP3 and I'd recommend a program like CDex for that.

You should also be aware that quite a few users can not receive html email or email with embedded sound files due to security settings in place on their system or their email server.

    ;)

    Thanks Rockster.

Before I received your reply, I downloaded WavePad, and with this I was able to reduce a WAV file.

However, I was having trouble with something and did a System Restore to 2 weeks ago, and have of course lost my WavePad! So I shall try your suggestions.

I have used DbPowerAmp before to convert WAV to MP3, but I didn't think they were any less in size.

Anyway, many thanks again. Always something to learn isn't there?::D
