A friend (a novice user) says that when he hits the double quote character key he displays the @ character and vice versa (@-key displays double quote character). This started after he had problems with the Task Bar moving about the screen (I was able to give him directions to get this back to the bottom of the screen).

Is this an infection problem or would it be a Regional and Language Options problem?

We are in Australia and I use English (Australia) with a US keyboard.

Kullaroo - Welcome to the Board :)
    Yes
What your friend experiences is the standard US keyboard layout.

Go to Control Panel > Regional & Language Options > Languages > Details > Add and select a UK keyboard. The default keyboard for Australia appears to be US.

Thanks, PeteC. I've sent him some step-by-step instructions to follow your suggestion. I'll report back when I hear how he went (probably tomorrow now).

Thanks, PeteC. All went well. The change in keyboard setting must have been one of those accidental things when trying to do something else.

(My apologies for the delay but my neighbour detached a retina and I had to make a mercy dash to Sydney with him and have only just got back to normal.)

Glad to hear that was the source of the problem and that it is now resolved - thanks for the update.

Do hope that your neighbor is now recovering well.
