    Hi guys,

Hope this is the right forum for my question:
I want to have a small homepage and to use IIS 5.1 for windows XP.
I have installed it successfully and followed the steps here:
    http://www.wikihow.com/Successfully-Configure-IIS-for-Windows-XP-Pro
one by one using port 80 that is openned for me.
I can access it using my local computer. How ever using an external computer brings me to a blank page. I tried all the possibilitis, different port number...everything but nothing happens. Can you help?

    Thanks

Does your ISP allow you to run a server? Most do not & will block the usual ports (80 / 8080).

If you are allowed to run a server, you may need to set up port forwarding in your router.

    Hi Arie,

As much as I understand port 80 is open. I checked it using the tool provided here:
    http://www.canyouseeme.org/
and it said port 80 is open. I also get the router password confirmation when I try to log in and then comes the blank screen.

    Thanks

Which AFAIK means that you haven't set up the port forwarding. You'll have to set your router to forward traffic on port 80 to the IP address of the computer running IIS.

I did set the router to forward the traffic on port 80 to the IP address of the my computer but still nothing.
    Just to clarify up:
I have a local Ip address and an external one.
In the router I set the local IP and get connection error when I type the external address on remote computer.
If I set the address in the router to the external address I get the router password request.

    Thanks!

Yes, that's how it should be. Unfortunately I have no experience in using/troubleshooting IIS, so can't help there.

    Well,

Thanks anyway. I'll replace the router and see what happens.

How exactly are you trying to access it externally? Via IP, via domain name?

Well, you need to make sure you've added a port exception to your firewall (not just through the router).

I am dubious of your port 80 access. Even if it is open now, it probably won't be open for long.

For testing, have you tried eliminating the router from the path to your network card?

What is the content of your default page in the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\ folder?
    Is it there?
    Is it blank?

When I set mine up, it was a huge struggle. I finally gave up trying to use the IP address and used ZoneEdit.com with a domain name.
Then it worked until my ISP detected the traffic and shut me off on port 80.
I was never able to get it to work on an alternate port so I gave up.

    BilbO,

I did all these already. I tried another port and also tried eliminating the router from the path to my network card and I even tried domain name from no-ip.com but nothing.
My page is a regular HTML file, but I gave up a week ago and paid for domain and a hosting service.
Sometimes it's better to give up than waste all your time on a crappy SW, although I hate myself saying that. I really tried hard b4 I gave up.

    anyway,
Thanks for the help. appreciate that.
