I found some information on how to get rid of the items on the location bar and the tweak worked just fine but there is ONE website or whatever that will NOT go away even after repeated clearing of Tools/Clear Private Date button. It is the PC World web site.

Does anyone here know how to totally clear the location bar?

Is this the way you removed the Awesome Toolbar:

    about:config

    search: urlbar

    double click on: browser.urlbar.maxRichResults

    change value to: -1

    double click on: browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped
    change value to: true

    Restart firefox

This should disable any links being retained in the Location Bar. At least it works that way for me.

I only did the one thing. Will try the other.

    Thanks.

That worked AFTER I looked more closely to your message. I had failed to add the minus sign before the 1.

You're so smart. Thanks a lot.

    Pat,

Glad you got it worked out, and all is well! ;)

P.S. Do you have your waders handy?

So glad I don't live a little further West. Pretty sad all the flooding.

    Thanks for the help.

    Ramona,

Okay, now here a mystery question for you.

I did the -1 value and after a few days I decided I didn't like that too much.

So yesterday I changed it to "6 ". For some reason I checked up there today and of course there were 6 items there as you would expect. But here is the mystery part. The FIRST line item is PC World and I haven't even been on that site for a week or more. Certainly not since I made those changes. That was the one I could not get rid of before when I cleared my browsing history and now it's up there again.

    Any idea why?

Being the guru you are I'm sure you know the simple answer and that's why I'm here. <G>

Well your bookmarks are always there, press Ctrl-B and take a look at your bookmarks...

Sorry, but I am a little dense and have NO idea what you mean?

What do my bookmarks have to do with my Location Bar?

    Pat,

No guru here, just a long-time user... :D

What happens if you use Shift+DEL for that URL? Does the URL reappear when you close and reopen Firefox?

At WHICH point do I use the Shift+DEL option?

Like right now this site is on the Location Bar. When I click on the arrow that is on the Location Bar to the far right, PC World is still there. If I type in six other urls and then clear my browsing history via Tools/Clear Private Data, PC World will NOT go away.

    Am I confusing you now?

No, not confused yet. Click the down arrow on the right side of the Location Bar, and highlight the PCWorld URL, and now: Shift+DEL

Close and reopen Fx, is the PCWorld URL gone?

Okay, that's what I tried the first time around but that's when I noticed something strange about that line item, PC World. There was a star in the upper right hand corner when I clicked on the arrow.

There were a couple of options there so I think I deleted something pertaining to the Bookmarks. Don't understand the STAR thing.

So now I have some other questions but will get back with you in a new thread if I can't figure things out.

It appears that I have many double bookmark entries so I'm hoping Mozilla has something posted about the NEW FF3 bookmarks.

That's all I need. More problems.

But for now PCWorld is gone.

    Thanks.

    Pat,

The Star is for Bookmarking the current page. If you will do a mouseover on the star, you will see the "Bookmark this page ". If you right click the Start, then the Bookmark for the current page is added to the Bookmarks "Recently Bookmarked" folder.

    Thanks.

I see I have a lot to learn about this new version. I see you posted some notes and will be checking that out.

Just when I get one thing worked out I run into something else. That's life I suppose.
