    I've got a delicate problem. During the setup I was asked if I wanted FF to be my default browser. I answered NO (didn't tick the Yes-box).
    However, every time I click any link in a newsletter or try to open a favorite from Windows Favorites-menu, FF starts.
    I cant even change browser in the Standard Program cpl, since IE's not even there to choose, and .url and the http-protocol is defaulted to FF, and greyed out.
    Please help me regaining command of my browser! I need a tip or trick... :(

    P.S This is on my Vista Business laptop D.S.

    Can you bring IE up at all? If so go into tools/Internet Options/Programs and there you can change the default browser. Hope this helps.

    I surely can use IE with some effort, but the suggestion you gave doesn't help, I've tried it dozens of times. :-/ Anyone else?

    I have XP and IE 6 but maybe this will work for you. Know very little re Vista. Try opening Windows Explorer and look at the file type for internet shortcuts. This is how the type shows in Favorites. See if it is set to IE, if not try changing using folder options, file types. (hopefully something similar in VISTA). When I look at the folder for favorites, all of them show IE as the association. If yours show Firefox maybe you can change them.

    Hopefully this may help.

    Good luck

    Thanks for your answer, but unfortunately it's not that easy in Vista. I tried that too, but Vista's way to handle that i through Standard Programs cpl (or perhaps Default Programs cpl. My OS-language is Swedish, so I'm trying to translate), and that didn't work either, as I mentioned before.

    I found the above in Firefox Tips and Tricks, which you may have not seen.
    This may or may not be of any use. In my experience, I had to select an earlier version of FF as default, and FF3.0 never tried again. I will have to close FF2.x, which I am using now, and see where the the Tools|Options|Mail|system defaults check now is located. I think that FF3.0 move it to Advanced.
    But, if you press the Check now button, and say No, you may have what you want. Do I understand correctly that you want IE as default? I don't have Vista either, but it may work if you do the Check now.
    In FF3.0, it is in Tools|Options|Advanced|System defaults, at the bottom of the popup. Press Check now. If it tellsx you that Firefox is your default, check No.

    This wont solve your problem but until you figure out how to solve try the following.

    Install Firefox add-on IE Tab.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419

    Then

    When FF opens up your web page double click on the Firefox icon at the bottom of the page and you will be able to easily open page up in IE. as an alternative right click on that icon and look at the IE tab options it gives you and try choosing them.

    Once installed you can also see it its options under tools and work from there.

    Westside: Unfortunately it didn't work, but it was a nice try. Thank you! :)

    jorjab: That add-on seemed interesting. I might as well try that, Tank you too! :)

    If I can't solve this, I'll have to uninstall FF 3 again and wait for some solution in the future.
    Again, Tank you all for being so kind and helpful! :)

    You're Welcome.

    One other useful add-on extension is IE View

    it allows you to switch to IE Mode and you can tell it to always use IE mode for that web site.

    IE View Lite
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1429

    Or

    IE View ( I Use this one and have done so for quite a while). Not sure re diff between the lite and the regular.

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/35

    Have fun, wish I good help more.

    If you ever figure it out don't forget to post how and/or what.

    I promise I'll get back if I find a solution. Meanwhile I'll check that IE View add-on. It seems neat! :)

    Zcorpio,

    Windows Vista:
    Start | Default Programs | Set Program Access and Computer Defaults | Custom [3]

    (Windows XP/Vista: Click the icon to the right of "Custom ", to expand the category.)

    You will see Internet Explorer and other installed browsers listed under "Choose a default Web browser" . Select "Mozilla" (Suite), "SeaMonkey" or "Mozilla Firefox" (in some cases, "Mozilla Firefox" may not be listed; to add it back, reinstall Firefox [4]). In your case, select IE

    If the above doesn't work or if the "Set Program Access and Defaults" feature isn't available in your Windows version, you can manually set the default browser by selecting it as the the default program for individual file types and protocols as follows:

    Click the Start button, open "Default Programs" and then click "Associate a file type or protocol with a program ". [5]

    Assign the following protocols and file types to the browser you wish to set as default:

    * URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol
    * URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy
    * URL:File Transfer Protocol
    * HTML File
    * HTM File (optional)

    Note that you may find the URL protocols listed above under extension "N/A" or "(NONE) ".

    From: http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

    Open Windows Explorer.
    Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
    Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
    Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
    Select: open
    Click Edit.

    "Application used to perform this action" should read:

    "C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
    (Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
    double quotes.)

    DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

    #1: "%1 ",,-1,0,,,,
    #2: IExplore
    #3 (blank)
    #4 WWW_OpenURL

    URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.
    Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

    Let us know if any of these suggestions help...

    Hi Ramona. After trying all your tips and tricks, nothing that helped, I decided to remove FireFox from my computer. I did even try changing file associations via regedit - no success.
    Here's what I saw when trying to change default program for the URL-protocol, for example:

    http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/7466/ffqt2.png.

    Nothing I did could change it, so I finally gave up.
    As I said before: Thank you all for trying to help. I'll stick to IE alone now. :)
