In FF2 one could use Organize Bookmarks and change the Bookmarks Toolbar Folder to any bookmarks folder and then delete the original FF bookmarks folder. This option seems to be missing in FF3. How can one change the Bookmarks Toolbar Folder in FF3?

There are two folders which I did not include. I believe that one was Most visited, which is redundant, as it is in Smart Bookmarks. I just, right click on the unwanted folder, and delete it.
The organize bookmarks works, but a bit differently. You select the Bookmark Toolbar folder, right click, and select New Folder. Name it to your satisfaction (you do it from Properties). Put in it what you want. Then, you can delete the previous folder(s).

    Tony,

I imported my bookmarks.html file, then moved all folders in the Personal Toolbar to the Bookmarks Toolbar. Tedious, but effective. I think the ability to rename, as in Firefox 2.0.0.xx was much better.

    Yes, tedious!
I have never had a use at all for the Bookmarks Toolbar itself or the Bookmrks Toolbar Folder either. In fact, I get rid of the Space doohicky at the top & move the address bar to the Bookmarks Toolbar. What da heck is that space thing for anyway?

    Tony,

Space doohicky? You lost me there, my friend, not really sure what you mean. However, I do like the name. :D

Everything is so crowded that I would not know if there ever was a
. In fact, I am thinking of making better use of the toolbars, and removing all but one Tab, to speed things up.

View menu > Toolbars > Customize > Space.
The "Space" comes loaded in default installs and appears as a blank white space adjacent to the menus. I open the customize dialog and drag it off cause it's useless to me.

    Westside,

I agree with the comments about excessive toolbars. If you figure out how to reduce them. Let me know. Thank you.

It is easy to remove toolbars. View|deselect the unwanted toolbar. You may want to uninstall it, if installed. Tabs slow things more than anything else.
I was able to cut load time to 25% of the original, by cutting down from four to two tabs. Also, I got rid of unneeded add-ons.

    Westside,

Thank you for your reply. I should have been more specific. Since the topic was about Bookmarks, those were the toolbars that I wanted to reduce. Your comment about "View" led me to that point and following the dropdowns got me to a place which allowed removing those that I did not want. Now I'm back to a number that I have been using for years and which satisfy my needs.

Oh, that space, I agree it is totally useless.

    Ramona,
to rename what? I will have to see what 2.0.0.14 is like, but I see no appreciable difference between 2.0.0.14 and 3.0. But, I must say that I, probably, did what you said, being miffed, like a lot of other people, about the different set up. Could someone, or you, Ramona, tell me exactly what you did.
If I am not mistaken, what I call Personal Toolbar had only Home, Smart Bookmarks, Places, and Most Visited. This is called Bookmarks Toolbar. In addition, again if not mistaken, everything which was in the Personal Toolbar was in the Menu Toolbar (on top). I moved the entire thing in the Bookmarks Toolbar, and I have everything which I had before. I removed the Most Visited, which is redundant, and I can see every which I did before.
And, if I want to rename a folder or a single bookmark, I right click on it|Properties|change the name. I have 14 folders and 9 individual bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar. This is all my bookmarks which I have.
I believe that I made the changes with a beta or RC. It was a while back.
But, please, correct me if I misunderstood the issue, but I think that there is a nomenclature issue, plus the fact that FF3 is trying to force the use of their own folders. What they do has been done in a different way by Flock.

Rename a folder to Personal Toolbar is what I was referencing:

Open the Bookmark Manager and highlight any bookmark folder
(It doesn't matter which folder you select)

    Next:
    Click on: View
Select: Set as Personal Toolbar Folder
    Close the Bookmark Manager

    Now:
Open the Bookmark Manager, and highlight the Personal Toolbar
Click on View, and Select: Set as Personal Toolbar

I imported the Firefox 2.0.0.14 Bookmarks
Opened Firefox 3 Bookmark Manager (Library)
    Clicked on: Import and Backup
    Selected: Import HTML

    Next:
    Opened Personal Toolbar
Moved folders and individual Bookmarks to:
    All Bookmarks | Bookmarks Toolbar
    Deleted Personal Toolbar

My Personal Toolbar contained ALL my Bookmarks, which are organized in folders, by category.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

I wish I remember what I did, and when.
I am guessing that since I was using a profile, previously, used for Firefox1.5,, all folders were, already in the right place. I never did any importing. Sometimes, when things things work, it is hard to imagine why anyone is having problems. I guess that my Personal Toolbar Folder changed the name to Bookmarks Toolbar, with no effort of my own.
