I am useing firefox on my windows xp. My bookmarks only seem to last a couple of weeks before they delete themselfs, this has been going on since i changed from IE,
I never had this problem when i used IE,To say i am teed off, is an understatement.

Has anyone got an answer to this problem? It seems to be quite widespread, when reading other posts.

    Welcome to the Forum, ironron!

    Ron,

Check out this MozillaZine KB Article, which does an excellent troubleshooting process for lost Bookmarks. Try the workarounds it suggests in order to safeguard your Bookmarks in the future.

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks

Another tip which I have used for years, is to keep my Bookmarks separate from the Profile.

    Close Firefox
    Create a folder: C:\Bookmarks
Move the bookmarks.html file to this folder

    Next:
    Open Firefox
    Clear the Location Bar
    Enter this text: about:config
    Press Enter

Right click anywhere on the page
    Select: New | string
    Enter this text: browser.bookmarks.file
Enter this text for "String Value ": C:\Bookmarks\bookmarks.html

Note: you will not have the usual five backups of your Bookmarks file, and you will have to do that manually, or use your backup software to do it on a daily basis.

It's also a good idea to back up your entire Firefox folder on a daily basis in order to protect your Profile data. By doing so, you will never lose any of your personal data. I'm referring to the Firefox folder located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox

The bug report quoted by Ramona is some four years old. After the initial report, there was more, every year. I don't know if that qualifies as widespread.
I am not saying that it is insignificant, but, probably one percent or fewer users have had such experience. The irritating thing is there seems to be no rhyme or reason about this happening. And, of course, some users will never want to use Firefox. I have a feeling that there has been no fix, because no one at Mozilla could reproduce the bug, and such episodes are rare.
I have been using Firefox since the early days, even before the bug report, and have had as many as four different versions of Firefox, each with a different profile, and never had such problem.
I would do what Ramona advised, or at the very least back up the file. Next, I would create a new profile, into which the file could be imported, or copy/pasted. Some people say that I am crazy using as many versions of Firefox as I do, but I feel that I have four backups.
