Ok a little update. The 20 second odd pause has slowly creeped back again. All teh services previously disabled are still disabled. But I am still getting an error in the error viewer each time i switch on -

The IP address lease 192.168.1.100 for the Network Card with network address 001A4D5E093C has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Also I have this error on shut down -

Windows saved user PC\Paulie B registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Kind off getting annoying as I know the computer should be super quick, and it was when I very first installed windows last week so something has happened and it seems to be something network related or something, even though the pause is there when in safe and safe with network.

By all means do Pete's process.

But I think more is going on here!

We are going to take you off DHCP and use Static Lan Ip.

    Do a System Restore point.

Note all settings that you change below in case you need to put them back!

I don't expect this unless you have some unusual issue.

Rt click My network places then properties

Then rt click Local Area connection

The click the line, Internet Protocol TCP/IP.

Click Use the following IP Address, enter 192.168.1.10

Click the Subnet it will change to 255.255.255.0 if it is not already.

    Click Gateway make it 192.168.1.1

    Below this

Click Use the following DNS Server addresses enter 192.168.1.1 apply OK your way out!

Rt click the Local Area Connection again and check that all saved!

Then go into Services and turn off DHCP Client! Check that the others are all still off.

    Clear the event logs

    Reboot

Retest for issue and get back to us!

Ok it worked, No pause and no error. But i could not connect to the internet and have had to put it back to automatically detect settings.

Would I have to do something to the router? Also, my ISP refreshes the IP every now and then as I'm on broadband so I'm not too sure whether a fixed IP would work?

OK we have it almost right!

Put it all back to Static as in my last post!

Then add 62.31.176.39 as the Second (Alternate DNS Server)

You may not need the below so reboot and try, if no joy then add the below!

Click Advanced on the lower Right then the DNS Tab then Add
put 194.117.134.19 in and click Add!

    Do the same with 195.188.53.175

Get back and let me know!

Cool it worked! I didn't have to go as far as the 'if no joy then add the below'.
Pause is like 2 seconds if that now! and I can connect to the net :)

One thing though whenever I open a new browser I get the 'looking up' in the bottom left hand corner for a second before the website opens. Is this normal now due to the fix you've given me?

Also, is there anything I need to do to my route? as I also have to Xbox360s that run on the same router and do not want to have to change my settings back on the pc due to problems with the 360s.

Once again a big thanks for helping me Mike!

    Hi

    OK glad to hear it!

Your overall speed after bootup should be better snapier also have you noticed that?

No I don't think what we did will have any issues with XBOX. If so contact me back.

    Im not sure about the
but does it seem to slow you down? If not ignore it!

You could try the if no joy steps and see if it changes.

Pretty much par for the course - either 'looking up' or 'wating for ....'
