I own a full verison of XP Pro that I have installed on my homebuilt computer. I also have a Toshiba A75-S229 which has XP home. Does my lic for the XP Pro allow me to install it on my laptop?

    Thanks,

    Glee

No - the EULA allows you to make a single install from your XP CD to one computer. You would be able to install on the laptop, but would be unable to activate.

OTH if you removed it from your desktop you would then be entitled to install it on your laptop, but you would have to convince MS that the desktop no longer had that copy of XP on it.

I had a feeling that would be the case..

I guess I could buy an upgrade to xp pro since I have xp home already. Do you think there would be any problem doing a upgrade. All Toshiba gives is the restore disk and not the XP Home.

    Thanks,

There is no such thing as a Home to Pro upgrade.

What is on PRO that you need that isn't on Home?

I beg to differ there as well. :D

There is a ton of tweaks that you can do in Pro that you can't do in Home. Also, with Pro you can do remote help which I do for a lot of my techtar friends. I just feel that I have more control over my computer with a clean verison of XP Pro instead of the Toshiba XP Home with all the bloatware added.

The problem with a clean install from an upgrade CD is that you would need to provide evidence during the install process of your eligibility to upgrade by inserting a full install CD of a supported OS - I would not be sure that a Recovery CD would be suitable.

OTH if you have a full install CD for W98, Me, NT or 2k to hand that would do nicely.
