I am new to this forum and really not used to forums so will probably do something wrong here. Anyway, I am a teacher of "sewing machine" software and my students purchase computers because their sewing machines connect to computer to create embroidery designs that can be sent to the sewing/embroidery machine to embroider on garments, quilts, etc.

We are always having issues and some I can't help with. The lastest issue is from one of my Yahoo Group members that was working in her "digitizing" portion (create a design) of her software. She created part of a design and then when she created a "fill" for another part of the design she got his message: "an invalid arguement was encountered."

I googled this and there are a lot of programs that have this problem. I don't know what this means and don't know what to tell her.

    Thank you for your time,

    Bulldogs Sweety

    Hello Bulldogs Sweety,
I guess a good place to start would be with the software. What's the MAKE/Model sewing machine and name of the software? Do you know if they have online support (for updates patches and stuff)?

    Error Message in 3D Software

    Hi,

The software is called 3D Software for the Pfaff/Viking sewing machine companies. It is an outdated software and is not supported anymore by Pfaff and no more updates.

The software contains many different "modules" and one of them is creating designs from images. She created the first "fill" and then another "fill" probably for a different angle or color and that's when she gets this error. I just don't know what the error message means and that's why I was asking for help. She has been given a couple of different answers from my Yahoo group members and said she would try them.

I don't know if uninstalling and reinstalling the software would help but just wanted to know what to tell her as far as the error message.

    Thanks,

    Ughhhh,
Now we're getting into software codes, exceptions and instructions. I prefer to wait for someone else to answer this before embarassing myself. Any explanation I could offer would more than likely be to basic/simple, wrong or guess work based on my level of understanding such. Let's wait and see.... Sorry!

Curious if others in class use the same machine, computer and software? If so, do they have any problem doing the same thing using the same exact method?

    --------
Look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parameter_(computer_science) and you can see why I would tell her that she just tried to do something with the program in a way that the program was unable to handle, due either to program settings, method she was using, or a glitch either by user or software. (<- This is why I said my explanation would be basic/simple)

    Error message on 3D Software

Yes, many others use the software and I haven't heard of this problem until now, although one of my Yahoo group members posted the following message and I think I am just going to leave it alone for now.

    > Zoom in on the design after you have added the second color. Look
    really
    > close. There should be stitching that crosses over each other. You
    need to
    > fix this. That is the only time I have seen this message.

Thank you for your time and expertise. I'll send her to the link you provided and hope she gets this straightened out. I'm out of my league here. I appreciate your trying to help.

Perhaps following the advice of others on how this was done will help.

If this is the only task that causes the program to fuss, then my bet is, she or he tried to do something or change something in manner that could not be done. "Invalid Argument" means she tried to do something either not allowed by the program or the program couldn't do based on settings or abilities.

In this case I can't see how reinstalling the software would help, particularly if it's behaving other wise. As for the link I provided, I hope shes a computer or software programmer. Cause that stuff made my eyes cross......:)

Your welcome and thank you for the following up on the post.
