Since I keep my keyboard on a retracting tray, I only just now noticed that the NumLock light is on when the computer is off, and it stays on until I log in (per my preference). Is that normal?? Thanks.

Hmm. I don't remember the NumLock light being on all the time (while turned off on other computers). Must be my advancing years. :p Thanks.

Hi LarryB, I'm confused as well. I have two computers alongside me, switched off and the only light showing is the green LED on the Monitors. The Num Lock button is the control on the keyboard and shows green while the comp is ON. When I shut down the comp - the keyboard light goes OUT. I understand that your keyboard is on a tray which slides in or out from your desk station? It would be cable connection by PS2? It's not wireless? So where does it get the power from? This would indicate to me that the computer is still live! Even USB would have no power when you shut down the comp. Very strange. I would only suggest you try another keyboard to see if the light still stays on. I hope someone with more expertise looks in on your query. Neil.:confused:

My keyboard has a PS2 connector. I am surprised to hear that the power supply still has output (and power consumption) even when the computer is fully turned off. Is the CMOS powered 24/7, too?

The motherboard is not powered down until you switch off/unplug from the mains or flip the power switch on the PSU on the back of the case. Many have a green led on board to indicate this.
