This may not be the right forum for this post but since Autostreamer is referred to frequently here now that SP3 is available I thought it appropriate to post this here.
I have had autostreamer on my desktop since I used it for SP2. I also used it recently to slipstream SP3. Yesterday when I tried to open the program, it froze my computer. I was surprised and rebooted and tried again. Same problem. I finally uninstalled it using the windows applet and reinstalled. I did not do a cold boot. This time the program simply will not open but it does not freeze my computer. I have the same program on my laptop, and it works without a hitch. I notice that when Autostreamer is installed there are 6 files in the folder, 2 of them are *.ocx which are also programs in the Windows system32 folder. One of these ocx files is the same as the windows one and the other is newer. But this has always been true when it worked. Anyone have this experience and figured out what is wrong?

    Uninstall it!

    Run CCleaner temp and registry.

    Reboot

    Re-install it.

Likely nothing was ever wrong. There is a long pauses as it reads the service pack. Task manager may say not responding but that will clear if left long enough.

After re-installing try again, give it 2-3 minutes to come up!

    Thanks Mike.
I ran CC Cleaner for the temp files and found 2 entries in the registry which referred to Autostreamer that I deleted. I was afraid to delete all the registry items, even though I backed up the complete registry, because of so many references to deleting Windows update files. If I delete those registry items, does that mean I can not reverse a windows update?
After doing this, I tried to reinstall Autostreamer and nothing happens when I double click it.

Sounds like something else going on here!

Did you reboot after uninstalling then clean?

Just redownload AutoStreamer and reinstall from the new download.

Removing registery items for AutoStreamer will not in any way effect windows updates.

In fact especially in CCleaners gentle safe conservative clean removing all will be safe.

Remember a Registry cleaner finds "bad" registry items! It is like an eletrical circut it has to connect (point to something) if it can't connect (not pointed to something) then it is a broken link and needs to be deleted.

That is why CCleaner found the AutoStreamer references because you had un-installed.

The same applies to the registry items you did not delete. They were dead needed to go.

I think it is serious. When I double click I don't even get the installer to open. Nothing happens at all. Is there some generic windows program that does installations that might be kaput?
I have not tried to install anything else and I wonder if that is going to be a problem?

    OK do the below

    Download Dial-A-Fix (DAF)
    http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix#...C_and_articles

Have XP CD available in case DAF needs a file.

Check all boxes on the screen (clear any restrictions if it shows any)
    Then click GO!

When the entire page is finished click the HammerHead at bottom to go to the second DAF page.

Here 1 at a time do the below

    Reinstall BITS
    Reinstall Windows Firewall
    Repair Permissions
    Reset networking
Watch for any File not found or other errors and make note as this may lead to the fix!

    Reboot retest!

    Get back to us.

    Mike,
When I run eventvwr after I try to install I see there is a long list of stuff about Quickcam, a logitech device that I installed to use with Skype since I last ran Autostreamer. Somehow I believe the windows installer has been compromised by Quickcam.

    OK Ackerberg

Was on my way out the door and late when I posted last post!

OK not all programs use the windows installer so these should un-install OK!

Now if any of these require the windows installer and that is the problem then you will need to run Dial-a-fix first to fix the windows installer.

After fixing the Windows installer you may not need to remove these and AutoStreamer will install.

    So! Do it!

    Hi Mike,
I really appreciate your help but I am going to abandon this problem for several reasons:
    1. I have a computer on which Autostreamer is working
    2. I have a slipstreamed WIN XP Pro SP2 which works fine, since I loaded it onto a new HD several months ago
    3. I slipstreamed SP3 with an original WIN XP Pro SP1 disk. I do not know if this works, but I have no reason to doubt it since the slipstreamed SP2 with that disk works fine.
    4. My only reason for using Autostreamer at this point was to slipstream an already slipstreamed SP2 disk with SP3. I can do this on my other computer.
    5. I am not at all sure that I want SP3 anyway.
    6. I do not want to risk creating a problem with my computer at this time, particularly with loading new software.
My regrets are that I am a curious person and wonder why this program will not even begin to load. I suspect that when I loaded SKYPE and the Logitech Mini-Cam, a problem was created with the loader. If I find at a future time that I have difficulty loading a program, I will have to deal with this again at that time.
I hope you are not disappointed and I must mention again that your help was greatly appreciated.

    Oh no no problem!

But I don't think you will not abandon it for long because I think you have issues with this computer.

    Does winupdate work?

Get back when you are ready.

    Good luck.

    Mike

    Mike,
I thought you might be interested in this. Apparently when I installed Quick Cam Chat , there were some Avatars dll's installed which prevent other software from starting. This is documented on Logitech's website and apparently this is why Autostreamer will not load. They say they are going to fix this problem, but who knows when. I tried to delete the offending dll but when I rebooted, Windows reinstalled the dll.

    Hi Mike,
I thought I would end this thread by providing the solution to my problem with Autostreamer and another program called Tlswrap.exe which I need to install webpages .
Neither of these programs would load and when I looked at the eventdwr page on applications, I discovered that the Logitech Web Cam was interferring with the loading of these programs. I found on Logitech's website that the Web Cam software had some programs called Avatars which produced the problem - so when I uninstalled the Web Cam software everything worked...except my Web Cam. I then called Logitech and was informed by one of their workers that if I just install the Web Cam drivers, without the Avatars, everything will work. She was correct.
Everything now works fine. Thanks for your help.
