So where is FF3.0? I was playing around with Ubuntu which can be loaded into RAM only using the CD. It has a version of FF which seems to be 3. I thought it was very fast.
Do you think FF3 will have to be a completely new install or will it be an update?

A final version of FF3.0 has not been released, yet. It is pretty close, though, being at the RC (release candidate)2 version. If stripped down, i.e. with no tabs, and maybe a couple of add-ons, it is even faster than Opera. And, pretty darn fast in any case. At this point, it is a separate installation, which I use with a separate profile, but when the final version will come out, if may be possible to get it as an update. It is too soon to tell.
Since I intend to keep FF2.0.0.14 for a while (while add-on compatibility is taken care of), I am using a separate install, and separate profile.
Add-on security is a big thing in 3.x. In fact, I am testing 3.1 nightlies which has only two or three compatible add-ons.

Did you get a beta version to try?
If so can it be downloaded?

I tried all five beta releases, as well as the two RC2 candidates. download.com is, probably, the most convenient site with a link to download RC2 . There is no sense in getting a beta, at this point.

Anything in the RC2 I should be aware of?
    Any bugs you found?

This is a "Beta" Release, so I would take Westside's advice, and wait for the official release of Firefox 3.0 which will be later this summer, or after most of the bugs are worked out.

    Mozilla warns:
Please note: We do not recommend that anyone other than developers and testers download the Firefox 3 Beta 2 milestone release. It is intended for testing purposes only.

This is why I rarely announce the release of a Beta or Release Candidate.

One can take a look at a beta, advanced or not, but he/she has to be careful, creating separate profiles, and installing in a separate folder.
Except for a few earlier beta, I have had no problems with 3.0. The earliest betas were stealing default from 2.x. And, of course, if one is used to certain add-ons there may be problems. I am a big fan of the Prefbar add-on, ut with beta4, and on to beta5, and RC1, I had a non-working add-on. It is working now in RC2.
