I turned on my monitor this morning and once it booted up, logged into my password etc, the monitor screen started going black, then back to normal then black again etc etc. It was working fine yesterday so I am not sure what the problem could be whether it is the monitor itself or a driver issue, saying that I have just updated to the most recent drivers and I am still getting the same issue. Screen going black every 3/4 seconds.

Any help will be appriciated :).

    Try this ... !!!

Firstly I want u to check if the same thing is happening in the BIOS. More over if its possible to check if this happens only if you are playing or running a specific game or application. Alternate if possible try to swap with a known good monitor to verify. High probability is that its gonna be a problem with ur monitor.

Im sorry for sounding stupid but I do not know how to check my BIOS, however I can confirm that the black screen issue is happening in all applications I have tried, eg word, various games etc so it is not just a selected few.

To expand on fsolkar's post .....

As soon as you boot the computer when the splash screen appears followed by the POST screen look for a message stating hit a specific key to enter Setup. If that is not available F1 or Del are the usual defaults.

When you are in the BIOS - touch nothing :), but see if the same monitor behaviour occurs.

If it does likely a dodgy monitor, graphics card or power supply.

Let us know how it behaves when displaying the BIOS screen.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up Pete. I did that and the problems still persists so I would think the monitor is to blame. I did however notice when the black/normal screen issue is occuring pressing the "Auto" button on the monitor seems to stop it for about 5 minutes or so, so that pretty much confirms it is the monitor which is the problem. Thanks for the help guys, looks like I got to get me anew monitor :p.

    Thanks again.

Don't be too hasty :) I guess the monitor may be on the way out, but for confirmation I would try it on another computer first. If it behaves the same - case proven, if it behaves perfectly look at your graphics card as a potential source of the problem.

Alright I'll see if I can test it on another pc later, bit difficult at the moment, looks like the issue only happens now and then, for example now it is perfectly fine and has been for a while, but i'm sure it will return.

Well it seems to have past for the time being (several days now) I will keep an eye out for it, the same problem hasn't occured on another computer because of it not happening again yet. But I will test it on another pc if the problem returns.
