Swap FileC:\cwsdpmi.swp Getting mesage saying can't open file Swap FileC:\cwsdpmi.swp. Microsoft doesn't seem to have this, and Medion doesn't seem to have anything on it either. This is preventing the recovery cd from working?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS.com:)

Can't say that I've ever heard of any of this....Can you shed some more light on how - when - where you're getting the error?

Is Medion the name of the company that made your pc?

Is it possible you trying to open the restore CD in Windows rather than booting to it at startup?

No this is not possible as I can't get the computer booted up. or couldn't. I have in fact tired this since I've managed to get it to boot up, with a new drive. But I still get the missing file error, and I still can't use the cd to do a system recovery. Aas I still get the same message.

Yes Medion is the name of the company that made the computer. And this all started after I installed and ran Ubuntu, for about a week. then I found that every time I started up the Ubuntu OS, it was creating another partition, After trying to remove Ubuntu the computer refused to boot up any more, with this missing swap file being referred to every time I try to run the recovery disk. I've since installed more ram, and more hard drive. One 500 gig TrekStore USB drive, and one Seagate 500 gig internal hard drive. The external drive is showing 465 gigs capacity, this is not bad. But the internal hard drive the original 360 gig unit is now showing only 20 gigs. the other 500 gig unit seems to be undecided about anything. Everything I put in there shows up as being listed with blue font's as if it's all unavailable. I now have 4 gig's of ram, and I'm showing 3.5. i have2 new hard drives showing me about half the actual gigs available. But I have managed to get the system booted up and windows running using one of the new drives with a new windows installation, using the recovery console, and the very limited amount of knowledge concerning DOS commands. I'm just hoping that if I could get the computer to reformat using the recovery disk that this would solve a lot of my problems! But I'm totally unsure of this to. I have to admit that this newly updated and refurbished comfuzer. Is working as it should be, because I'm now completely and totally confused. I hope I'm also learning a bit more than I knew before. but that's still not proven. I do have another USB drive. K drive, it's a one gig Kingston key chain drive, and it's working perfectly? And another 16 mb camera card with small programs on it, instead of pictures. It's working great to. Now I'm going to reboot. So I may, or may not, be back for a while!!
Thanks to everyone who's replied to my questions. It's been a great and encouraging help.
Choosing the appropriate icon is just to demanding a chore.:confused::p:eek::)

How did you install Ubuntu? Did you use the "automatic" partitioning scheme or did you manually create the partitions? Is the swap area a separate partition? If so, download a GParted Live CD and boot with it, then use gparted to delete the swap partition and the Ubuntu partition.

I just burned the Ubuntu program onto a D like the instructions said, and then I simply followed the instructions . This seems to have worked out fine until I tried to remove it. I'm certain that I must have done something wrong at some point. And other's we're also using my computer? so I "m realy not sure what cause the problems.
