    Hi!

recently my computer died on me. i did some testing and i believe its the motherboard. my issue is with the HD in my tower.

i need to take all the photos and music off my main tower and transfer them to my laptop or move them to my portable HD.

i got a "Powmax Moving Star EN2535A Deluxe USB2..0 to SATA/IDE Adapter" from my local supply store to assist me with moving the files. i got everything hooked up, i powered up my laptop and the HD from my tower had the power from the switch. I could see the HD on my laptop and i can view the space on it. The problem is, it wont let me move any of the files from it. It also wont let me get into my personal documents. i can navigate the guest folders but i had mine closed off from the general public. i tried booting from the tower HD and it just boots from my laptop. it tells me access is denied when i tried to get into my documents file.

do you have any suggestions. i am currently installing my new motherboard and im hoping to just have to update drivers and not repair the windows XP system (i lost my disk and key).

    thank you so much!

Stephanie - Welcome to the Board :)

Good news and bad news .....
You need to Take Ownership of the My Docs folder, but that may not be enough
Can you be a little more explicit here - is there an error message or ???
This is the bad news - you will need to make a repair install. There is an outside possibility that Windows will run, but ....

How to replace the motherboard on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000
