I did a BIOS update a while back. One of the improvements lsted was this:

    Version 3.10 - 2007-11-06
Functional stability was improved by correcting rare instances of overheating, that could result in the deformation of the plastic casing of the computer.

Now this BIOS update was for a L35 series, I wonder if your model might have a similar problem

Something you may want to check is in Task Manager, look at the bottom left-hand corner to see the CPU usage.

    Good info Ranger SVO.

dakar, does the machine have a floppy drive to boot to? If not, you will need to make a boot CD with BIOS upgrade files on it. Post back with the instructions if you need help (although my help may be limited, I have only done it once or twice).

You changed the "north "(?) fan, does that mean the fan on the Northbridge chip? Just be prepared that there has been heat damage suffered already.

We are all still learning. I hope someone steps in here and corrects me if I'm wrong. Please do not try this unless someone else confirms that this procedure is correct.

First download the BIOS Update. It should be 1a60v19.exe. Now you stated that you have no OS installed and no floppy drive.

Now (I use 7-zip) unzip the .exe file and look for the 1a60v19.iso. This is the part I'm not sure about, I believe this is the only file you need.

Using Nero, http://www.bay-wolf.com/bootcd6.htm, follow those directions exactly except for step 4. Select Image File and the location of the image file (1a60v19.iso).

Again,I would like for someone else to confirm this procedure. I have never updated a BIOS this way.

I downloaded the BIOS upgrade files. Be careful when you unzip them on a different computer, it may want to run the upgrade on that computer through Windows. Try right-clicking on the download and just decompress (unzip) the files.

Here are the instructions for making a boot CD:
Obviously, you will need to make the boot CD on a different computer. The Bay-Wolf instructions are for Nero Burning ROM v6.0, if the computer you are making the boot CD does not have Nero (v6), you will need to look at the instructions in the burning program for how to "burn an image" from an .iso file. Some burning programs don't have a Help menu, but you should find the manual in their program folder. Some burning programs make it easy and have a "burn disk from image" selection.

If you get stuck, just let us know, somebody here should be able to give you some guidance.

The main points about doing a BIOS upgrade are that you are certain that the upgrade is the correct one for your motherboard (yes, from your information). Read the instructions carefully (I'm sure you will). Do not stop or crash-out of the "flash" once it has begun. Take the default selections. When completed, you may need to/should do a reset to default settings in the BIOS (it will tell you in the Readme.txt instructions).
