Today I had a lockup while trying a Right Click on a file on the desktop. I was able to open Task Manager and had CPU usage of 00. I will disable 1 more and see what happens.

We can probably figure this out pretty quickly with a dump of explorer when the hang occurs. I can give you the directions to do it, we can start with the text file adplus produces but if that doesn't help we'll have to get the actual dump file which may be kind of big.

Before I type up the directions, let me know a) if this is still happening and b) if you're comfortable downloading and installing the tools (I'll give you the link/directions).

This happened again this morning. Not on the desktop, but in an application. The only thing that works is "Ctrl-Shift-Esc" to Task Manager, and "Ctrl-Alt-Delete to Restart. Have redisabled things that I had enabled, except "Spybot S&D IE Protection" and "Desktop Icon Layout ". Start over again.

I now have 6 Extensions Enabled and 11 Disabled, with no lockups. I may have caused a problem that I should not have. I ran an Unattended XP Repair. If that solved the problem, it may not help someone else. I will continue to Reenable Extensions, one at a time.

I had another lockup, so I redisabled "Real Search ". I had earlier redisabled "PDF shell Extension ". I reenabled "Display Panning CPL Extension. That leaves "I Tunes" and Qres Property Sheet" that have not been reenabled. That now has a total of 4 disabled. May be closer to resolving the problem.

All extensions are Enabled, and no lockups in 2 days. I do not know why.

I'm not sure, either. Start all over?

I went to the Registry and slowed the speed which Menus open. That may be grasping at straws, but I do not know what else to do. I have the same setting for years, with no problems.

2 days without lockups. Do not know why, so I am afraid I can not help any one that may have the same problem. I will continue checking the setup. Make sure the time in use does be part of the problem.

Today I had a lockup while in my Opera browser on the internet. I got out of this by removing and replacing the batteries in my wireless mouse. Now I get into web sites much faster than before. Open files and folders much faster than before. I do not know why this can happen, but maybe it will solve my problem. Hope, Hope, Hope.

Maybe I should just decide whether this computer would make a good "Doorstop" at the front or back door. Wireless mouse battery level reads good, so it seems that it did not cause the problem today. Old problem this morning. Right click desk top icon causes lockup, mouse arrow moves.
