    Hello all!
well where to start, the first thing I would like to get my system to have a dual boot. I have Xpsp2 Pro running on a 2.4GHz with 1GB ram and I would like to add Freedos to my system but I'm not sure where to start. Yes I know I'll have to reinstall xp but was going to do this anyway.

    Thanks!

Generally speaking, you install the oldest OS first when dual booting.

I have a feeling this won't help and that you'll need a Boot Manager third party app to get the option to select which OS to boot to.

    Hi jmac1663

    Welcome to the BBS!

Why would you have to reinstall XP?

No need, there are any number of boot managers.

But if you are going to run a DOS or DOS Clone OS like Fredos. Then you will need a Fat Partition as DOS is not going to recognise NFTS partitions.

What are you trying to accomplish? Get a DOS program to work?

Well what I'm trying to do is get my copy of spinrite working so I can recover a dead HD. I thought I'd get dos working because I can't spirite to work in xp.

Also my system is bogged down with I'm sure adware and other stuff so periodically I reformat and install the OS.

well Jeff you can do that by booting with most any DOS boot floppy disk then insert the SpinRite disk.

I am assuming you are installing this HD as a secondary or slaved drive?

If so does windows acknowledge it exists at all?

Are you trying to salvage data or fix the HD for use?

First of I don't have a floppy drive for the boot disk and I've tried making a boot cd but not having luck with that either.

as far as the HD when I boot I can hear the drive spin but system won't
acknowledge it. I'm trying to salvage data. Bought a new 360GB HD and using 80GB as the slave. The dead HD is not hooked up just setting on the shelf.
