    Hi Guys...
I installed Windows XP on my laptop SP2.
after I finished my driver setups and all that I updated the Windows to SP3.
after the update I had 15 updates to install...
I downloaded the updates but when the Automatic Updates Program starts to install it, it is saying failed to update the following updates (all updates)

The fix is Dial-a-fix below but do the following cleanups first.

D/L install and run ATF-Cleaner clear all except passwords in all browsers you have.

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/ATF_Cleaner_d4949.html

D/L and install CCleaner: Clean temps and registery
    http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim

Reboot before continuing with the below.

    Download Dial-A-Fix (DAF)
    http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix#...C_and_articles

Have XP CD available in case DAF needs a file.

Check all boxes on the screen (clear any restrictions if it shows any)
    Then click GO!

When the entire page is finished click the HammerHead at bottom to go to the second DAF page.

Here 1 at a time do the below

    Flush DNS
    Reinstall BITS

Watch for any File not found or other errors and make note as this may lead to the fix!

    Reboot retest!

    Get back to us.

    That's a know problem

    1. Download the new WU Agent and place it on your Desktop.

    2. Start > Run, type CMD (hit [Enter])

In the command window type the following commands, hitting [Enter] after each command:

    net stop wuauserv

"%userprofile%\Desktop\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" /wuforce (including the quotation marks. Follow the prompts to install the new WU Agent)

    net start wuauserv

    exit

Yes did it have file not found issues or report any error?

You saying it completed without error?

    If so do this.

Clear all event logs. Do nothing else.
    try winupdate
    when it fails
immediately check app and sys logs
post any errors pointing to this

Thanks all. Third time was a charm with DAF.

Don't know if it had anything to do with it but I selected Express Updates instead of Custom. Anyways all is well in the world now. This Computer was a Nightmare!

    Great

Here was the cause from your last post

Windows can not update without BITS!

FYI since windows requires Windows Installer, this morning on MajorGeeks I found this, probaly announced earlier by M$ but I missed it.

M$ releases Windows Installer 4.5. This package contains for all Vers of windows both 32 and 64.
