I am in a some trouble now. My husband was the computer guru, had his own business, but he passed away this last Sunday and I am already having problems with my laptop. I noticed it acting strange and did what I thought I should, ran Ad Aware, Bit Defender, Protector Plus, and Supercleaner. Today, it was getting slower in responding. Now, it boots up and my desktop comes on, but my system tray icons won't show up and when I move the cursor into the bar it gives me a working sign. Nothing ever happens. I tried to crtl+alt+del and even it won't show up. What can I do?

Sorry to hear of husband's passing. Life goes on...

Try starting the computer is Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key during boot. Then select Safe Mode from the menu using the up-down arrows on keyboard folled by pressing the enter(return) key. This will start the comp in Safe Mode (windows loads generic hardware drivers and your desktop will look larger).

Once in Safe Mode, go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup. Run the Disk Cleanup and delete all the Temp and Temporay files. Then try rebooting in normal mode and see what happens.

If no joy, I suggest getting someone who is comp savvy to check out your computer in person, such as at a local comp shop, friend or relative.

    thanks

Thanks TonyT! I actually figured it out. I sat for a while trying to think about what my husband would do and safe mode popped into my head. I was able to enter in safe mode and then restore to an earlier date. They cleared everything up, but thanks for you advice and condolences.
