outlook 2003 outbox empty trying to send 1 of 9 messages

I looked through the posts but could not find a similar problem. I can select "send and receive" and receive messages then outlook will show above the task bar "sending 1 of 9 messages ". The status screen will show a check mark that all is complete and continue to try and send "1of 9" indefinitely. The outbox is empty.

If I send a message the outbox will show 1 message and "1 of 9" will show. After approimatly 1/2 hour outbox will empty and send will reflect that the message was sent. The recipient will confirm same. The 1 of 9 will continue.
Later I will get a message from "Mailer-Daemon" stating there is a problem with e-mail and the message I sent failed. The text of the failed message refers to an ISP I no longer use. I have not made any changes to my system. I have contacted my ISP and reinstalled a new password and account several times.

 

Is your old ISP listed in Outlook or Outlook Express? Maybe in OE and your default mail might be OE and not O.

The old ISP is not in OE or O. In fact the old Isp was not this computer (home). I did use the Old Isp at my office.

yes in IE /Tools/Internet Options/Programs
