Computer freezes when loading one particular website

When I go onto my nvq website I have to enter my username and password. I can do this but as soon as I click OK, my computer freezes.
I can press ctrl-alt-del to close the window but it doesn't solve my problem.
I have tried reverting back to an older Internet Explorer and reinstalling IE7 but that doesn't work. I've switched off all pop-up blockers, disabled my anti-virus, restored IE back to its default settings and applied ALL Windows updates but nothing has worked for me up to now.

I've read some threads about updating Java and/or Flash shockwave but the site doesn't use flash at all so I'm wondering if this will be a pointless exercise.

Every single other website I try works perfectly fine, its just this one particular site that I really need to use but just can't.
It worked a couple of weeks ago then suddenly stopped. I've tried logging onto it from another PC and that works fine, it just seems to be on mine.

I must be missing a certain setting or something, can anyone provide any words of wisdom?

    Hi Chris

    Welcome to the BBS!

First get a better browser! Download Firefox below.

    http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-2.0.0.14&os=win&lang=en-US

You can have more than one browser. Handy when you have a problem like this.

If it don't work in both browsers then it is likely a system problem.
If it works in FireFox but not in IE then IE is the problem.

Only after doing the above and both do not work! Do the below.

Drag mouse with left button down, across the lines below then paste each line 1 at a time to an open CMD prompt and hit enter, ignore any errors for now.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    netsh interface ip delete arpcache

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /release *

    ipconfig /renew *

    ipconfig /registerdns

    nbtstat -RR

    netsh winsock show catalog > "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\lsp.txt

    netsh winsock reset catalog

    netsh winsock show catalog >> "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\lsp.txt
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Report back results!

    Mike

Hi Mike, I'm doing this for someone else's pc. I've tried using different browsers but still the same problem.
Before I try those command lines I just want to know what they do. I know what the ipconfig /release etc does but not the bottom half. Would just like to have a better understanding about it before I try it.
    Sorry to be a pain.

    Cheers, Chris.

    Open a cmd prompt
    type

    ipconfig /help

    nbtstat /?

    netsh ?

Basically an Enema for the network services!

Clears bad DNS reset TCPIP to default cleanup winsock.

No sure it will clear your problem but is a place to start
    Run it and get back.

After doing the above go into Add/Remove programs and un-install all Java and JRE entries.

    Reboot
Go here download and install fresh Java
