hello to all, i am having a problem with opening files or drives on my computer lately. every time i try to open a drive or file, a window comes up for search help instead of opening the file. I dont know how to return my computer back to opening files as it did before and am seeking assistance.
    thank you for any help

Go to Start > Run and type regsvr32 /i shell32.dll and click OK. That will normally fix this problem.

Be mindful of the two spaces in that script, before and after the /i.

Thanks for reporting back your success Tim.

FYI, This quirk is most often caused by opening Explorer or My Computer and clicking on the Tools > Folder Options > File Types > File Folder and selecting "Advanced" then clicking OK instead of Cancel. Even though you have only looked and made no changes, changes will nevertheless be made IF you have selected "Advanced" and IF you then click OK. To avoid this, always click "Cancel" when you don't intend to change things.

    All the best, Dude
