My bosses computer was running XP home edition, with which we had a lot of problems. My boss had been running the system for a few months with out an up to date AV installed. We installed a new AV, and removed numerous viruses and trojans, and found we had a very unstable system. As my boss did not have the original XP Home edition disk, we could not do a repair on the installation.

So we installed my XP Pro over his home edition, and this fixed 99 % of our problems, but as we could not activate my copy on his system, we have only 30 days to to get a replacement copy of XP home edition from Microsoft. Well we now have that copy from Microsoft, and need to remove the XP Pro edition and repair the original XP home installation. How can we go about this without loss of data on the system. When I attempted to install the Home edition, we received an error message stating that we can not upgrade from Pro edition to Home edition. Makes sense I suppose.

    Regards
    Graham

You have a major problem on your hands - you simply cannot remove XP Pro and revert to the original installation of XP Home. AFAIK not even System Restore will achieve that. If you have an image of the drive (via Acronis, Ghost)made before Pro was installed then that is a different matter.

The only solution as I see it is to back up all the data, format the drive and install Home. I do hope you have a full install CD as opposed to an Upgrade CD which will require evidence of possession of a previous OS - Me, 98 - the full install CD, not an upgrade CD.

That's garbage - you cannot uninstall Windows from within Windows - in fact you cannot uninstall XP except by reformatting.
