I just recently had a bigger hard drive put into my desktop (used to be my dads), everythings working well, jsut had it formatted. He put on Nero 8 for me too..... which works, but i was wondering, is there a way to disable that splash screen? It probably makes the program take 3 times as long to load, because it has to load that, and its animated. any way to remove it? I tried google with no luck, i could only find things about nero 7...

    Hi, Mel. :)

I have Nero 8 Ultra Edition installed so I might be able to assist.

Are you referring to a splash screen that appears during computer start-up or are you referring to a splash screen that appears during a Nero start-up?

If you are referring to a splash screen that appears during a Nero start-up, what part of Nero are you executing just before the splash screen appears? (There are several components of Nero 8 Ultra Edition that can be started from the Start menu so I would like a little more information).

What does the splash screen look like? What information does the splash screen contain?

I would like this information so I can try to reproduce your issue (if necessary) and look for a way to disable/enable the splash screen.

(The "splash screen" I have identified so far is a small image in the center of my screen with the word "nero" and a dashed circle when I execute "Nero StartSmart ". The dashed circle is animated so it appears a red section is circling clockwise in the dashes.)

You described the splash screen that I am referring to. I havent noticed a startup one, but i do always turn it on and then go do something while it boots up, so it may or may not be happening then too. But, the only feature I use really is "Nero Burning Rom "... but that animated splash screen happens before the program opens. the same one happened when i opened a video, the nero player started up. (ive since directed videos to winamp though).

my laptop has nero 6, that ones no big deal... the program opens quick and its just a still image... but this new one seems to take quite a bit longer to open/load. my desktop is slow as it is, so if possible id like to speed it up.

    any ideas?

Like many programs Nero has become bloated out of all recognition, but remains the best burning program IMO.

I use Nero 7 and, like you, rarely want anything other that Nero Burning Rom - the ideal solution is to put a shortcut to NBR on your desktop .....

Start > Programs > Nero 7 Premium > Data > Nero Burning Rom - right click on it > Send to - Desktop as Shorcut.

Your route may be different, but the end result the same. Clicking on the shortcut opens NBR directly without the Nero Smart Start centre or the equivalent in 8.

^thats what i have done already, lol... but that splash screen still happens, when i want to open anything nero actually. (but i do only use NBR). it just seems to take longer to open because my computers memory isnt the best, and it seems that the splash screen takes up a hunk of ram, and then makes the program itself open slower...

(why do they bloat everything? Im still using winamp 2.91 for the same reason... WLMD better not be bloated because i have no choice but to use it come july.)

If this is the splash you are concerned about I doubt it can be disabled.

nope, i have nero 8. it shows up with a black word "nero" and it has a circle made out of black dashes, and red animated going through it, about the length of 1 of those black dashes (like someone else described much better above) lol.

ive read about using reshacker to do it, im just not sure how... and that info was also about nero 7 which isnt the 1 i have.

most programs allow you to disable splash screens, why is it that some dont?

I attached a still of the animated image (which I will call the "animated circle ") below for clarification. The white portion is actually transparent when it is displayed while a Nero 8 component is loading.

I doubt the animated circle image causes the delay in loading. I expect that image, itself, does not consume more than a few KB of memory.

I noticed, after the first time I load a Nero 8 component and then close it, the Nero component loads faster on subsequent startups of that component. I have not tested after a reboot yet.

I did a little looking around in the "Options" for StartSmart and Burning ROM about disabling any "splash" images but I did not find any (yet anyway).

I suspect we may not have much control over the animated circle, what Nero loads into memory, or what checks Nero may perform when loading.

Resource Hacker might be applicable but I have VERY little experience using it. The only time I used Resource Hacker was in 2005 when Spybot S&D v1.4's TeaTimer popup window was messy. I followed very clear instructions I found for that situation in the Spybot forums. I currently have no clue about how to use Resource Hacker with Nero 8 for your splash/load delay issue.
