Not sure this is the right forum, did a search didn't find anything related to my issue.
I have DSL service, my son has cable internet but it uses a proxy setting. He cannot connect to the internet using his wireless or wired connection. However, when I bring his laptop to my house and remove the LAN settings (as mine doesn't require a proxy), it connects without problem. On occasion he has been able to connect but he can't download anything at all.
Googling and checking the services running on his laptop I was wondering if the netlogon service or the secure socket protocol has anything to do with this.
Should either or both of these be enabled to connect through a proxy? The cable company is no help at all.
Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

Some iSPs' defaut setup uses a proxy server for connection. However, you do not need to use the proxy server. Disable the proxy in Internet Options.

If we do not enter the proxy settings then we can't connect at all. And they must be entered on all computers whether connecting wired or wireless and most programs that require updates must have the proxy settings entered into them as well or else they cannot connect.

The Linksys Router does not have to have the proxy entered into it but any computer using this ISP has to use the proxy settings..

    Unuaual! What ISP?
You could also try disabling proxy and use different DNS than ISP in the Linksys.

I don't know Blue Sky or something like that who say they contract with Embarq (which is the service I have). I'll try your suggestions and see if we can work around the proxy.

Since you seem to be knowledgeable on Networking I have another problem maybe you can help me with.

We have 3 computers with Vista installed. All have the same protection on it and all are connecting through the same network.

The 2 wireless computers do not have this problem, but on my desktop which is hard wired to the router I am getting this message when attempting to go to some websites.....

"www.(website).com" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer.

I googled this and didn't find much but it seems to be a common problem but with no solution at any of the forums I read (even MS) and no I do not have Norton's installed which was suggested as a cause.

Like I said we all have the same security suite, we all use a customs host file, Zoned Out/ie spyads (no not listed in either of those as a blocked site), spyware blaster, PC Tools Spyware Doctor and AdAware 2007. But I am the only one that cannot access the sites.

Vista updates and all security software is up to date.

    Any idea?

Thanks for your help. Greatly appreciated.
