    Hi niftytrader,

The most common cause of Ad-aware hanging in my experience was due to temp files. Lets do some housecleaning and see if it helps. Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.
    • Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Check the boxes to the left of:

      • Windows Temp
      • Current User Temp
      • All Users Temp
      • Temporary Internet Files
      • Prefetch
      • Java Cache
      • Recycle bin

    • The rest are optional - if you want it to remove everything check "Select All ".
    • Finally, click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK then exit.
    Reboot

Try running Ad-aware again now and let us know the results.

I did clean with ATF cleaner and rebooted, however adaware still hangs. i've tried to run complete scan as well as smart scan but neither works.

At what point does Ad-aware hang?
What version are you running, and what definitions file is loaded?

    dear dave,

    the version is 7.0.2.7

and the definitions file is 0078.0000, however this problem has been around since i had definition file 71 or 73.

once i press "stop scan" button after the scan starts, the scan stops but i cannot access the other buttons like web update etc. if i let the scan run it gets to scanning folders (optional) but then the scan does not complete. i've tried leaving the scan running for over an hour but it is still at scanning folders once i get back.

    thanks

Seems there are a number of folks with the same issue of late. I recommend you have a look at this topic, register at the Lavasoft forums then send LS Babar a PM with the details of your problem.

In the meantime, I think I'll see if I can reproduce the problem on one of my machines. ;)
