I don't know how to exactly explain this, but I am having problems with web sites when using Firefox.
for instance if I go to my hotmail , and I read an email and I want to reply. When I hit reply, the page changes but what comes up is the same page with the same email I was just reading.,,no reply window.
I can only access the reply window, by right clicking and saying open link in new tab.
The same thing happens on a forum page. when I click to open up one of the messages, the page changes, and then the same page shows up again. I can only read the message I want by right clicking and saying open link in new tab.
Also, on some pages, there will be a link to a photo. When I click on the link, I get a message that the image cannot be displayed because it contains errors. When I right click and a open the link in a new tab. the picture displays perfectly.
And when I go to the same web sites mentioned above and use IE, I do not have the problem.

and I just tried to sign in here, to ask this question. when I signed in, it accepted my sign in, told me to wait to be taken to the forum page
and I got this error message instead:
    Fatal error: Call to a member function fetch_field() on a non-object in /var/www/windowsbbs.com/html/includes/class_dm_user.php(1585) : eval()'d code on line 3
When I use IE, I signed in and was taken immediately to this forum page.
what is going on with firefox? I never had this problem before.
Does anyone have any advice for me ? how can I solve this problem?
    thanks

It is possible that your firefox is corrupt or you have malware or virus. I'm currently having trouble with firefox that I wasn't before. I'm considering just reinstalling it.

    Welcome to the Forum, barcann!

    barcann,

Do you have the NoScript add-on installed? If so, have you allowed the pages you're having trouble with?

    Welcome to the Forum, vagabond!

    vagabond,

Reinstalling Firefox rarely helps, as most problems are in the Profile.

Please start a new thread, tell us your problem, and let's see if we can help.

    Thanks!

    barcann,

If you didn't install NoScript you don't have it. However, to check which add-ons you have, if any:
    Click: Tools | Add-ons

Try creating a new test Profile, and see if you still have the problem accessing Hotmail, and other sites. To create a new Profile:

    Click: Start | Run
In the blank field, type: firefox.exe -P

This Mozilla KB Article will show you, with screen shots, the steps needed to create the new Profile.

I also would suggest that you always give your Profiles a unique name, and never accept the "default user" name.

You would know if you have No script, and it would be listed in Tools|Add-ons.
And, don't bother with reinstalling. It, hardly ever, help.
Try to go to Start|All programs|Mozilla Firefox(Safe Mode). Starting in Safe Mode would disable all extras. If it works try to create a new profile. I can get the Profile Manager to display by right clicking on the desktop shortcut|Properties| type -p in the Target line, with a keyboard space in front of the -. You can use the bottons on the left to Create a new profile.
A profile will have a different name from the standard default. After creating a new profile, try again with the shortcut, and select the new profile. See if it works. A new profile will not have any of your bookmarks, but you can copy|paste the file from the old profile to the new one.
    But, let's try something first.

Let me see what you did. So, you rightclicked on the shortcut, and selected Properties. The Target line is on top. You type in -p with a keyboard space in front of the -. Is this what you did? Then Apply, and then ok.
I have done this for years, and never had a problem. Is this what you did?
When does it say that it is invalid?

    yes

That's exactly what I did. as soon as I hit apply, I get a box that says:
The name '-p' specified in the target box is not valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct.

    update..still in trouble

OK, I went to the KB article that Ramona mentioned. I found out how to create a new profile, which I did.
so now I am in Firefox with a new profile, and the same thign is still happening.
actually hotmail worked Ok but one of the forums I mentioned still will not let me go to another page unless I click open link in new tab
also when accessing something like google images. if I find an image and click
on see full size image, I get a message saying image cannot be displayed because it contains errors.
If I go back to another tab and then return to the tab where the image is to be displayed, then the image is there.
so I am back to square 1 without all my bookmarks and sign ins and my themes.
    any other ideas?
and please tell me how can I switch back to default user?
so far the only thing that has seemed to work is downloading the IE tab and making these links come up as IE pages.
what I also don't understand is why this problem started occurring all of a sudden.
    very strange.
    thanks for all responses
    B

    barcann,

If Hotmail works now, are you sure you want to go back to the original Profile? If so, simply delete the new Profile, using Profile Manager. Access Profile Manager the same way as before.

Have you run AdAware, Spybot, or any other programs to check for Trojans, and have you done a thorough AntiVirus scan?

Hotmail somehow works now even with the oriignal profile.
with the new profile nothing else works though. it is exactly the same thing so it did not solve the problem.
the only thing that apparently solves the problem is using the IE tab add on and making the new link open up with an IE tab. that is true even here.
when I click on this messge to read your reply, nothing happens. I just get the same front page. So I had to add the web site to IE tab options to get the new link to open up.
This is Ok exxcept on some web sites ,having to do this causes me to have to enter my password all the time.
so it is somewhat of a hassle and I don't undertsnad why all of a sudden it is occurring

If firefox was working ok, and, suddenly there has been a problem, I would suspect some trojan/virus. A friend of mine had all sort of problems, and was able to id the problem as due to a trojan. Most antivirus software did not find anything, except for AntiVir. His problem was different from yours, but one never knows.

    My guess: It's Skype

You prolly have Skype 3.8.0.115 installed (or not, in which case you can stop reading...). When FireFox is your default browser and you then install Skype, it automatically installs a plugin for FireFox. The plugin of Skype 3.x + and Firefox 2.x + don't mix that wonderfully...

I had the exact same problem. Especially websites running on older web technology (for example the internal webpages of my somewhat outdated ADSL modem, but also other 'established' sites) just put me back om the same page again and again after clicking on a variety of internal hyperlinks.

Finally uninstalled this abominative piece of s##tware (or at least, the plugin), and can now magically reach all the pages of my modem again. Weird. I know. Hope it helps. If not, then try uninstalling other third party plugins.

Not sure what Skype does. Most programs will install a file in Tools|Addons .
Addons can be disabled. Another approach is to start Firefox in Safe Mode (Start|All Programs|Firefox safe mode, in WinXP. It will not load any extras.
I may want to try Skype, although I have no need for it. If Skype added a file to link to it, it would be in the program plugins folder, and, it would be a .dll file.
Such files were essential in the old Netscape and Mozilla, but are not needed for Firefox.
