OK, I have Office 2003 for XP. Other businesses I deal with have Office 2007. I have a few Excel files they have sent me in the .xlsx format which is the 2007 version. I know that Microsoft has the file converter available for download on the site, but once I download and install it, it doesn't work. If I go to open a .xlsx file format, an error window comes up with "File converter failed to save file "

Any suggestions.... I have tried re-downloading it numerouse times... also have rebooted. I downloaded the dame file converter on my home PC and it works like a champ! Something unique to downloading it to my work notebook... (IBM ThinkPad). Thanks for nay suggestions.

If you're getting the error when opening the excelt file from within a mail, try saving the file to your desktop and retry opening it.

Are the files you are trying to convert Read only? If they are get rid of that attribute and try again.

Right click on the file > Properties. On the General tab uncheck the Read only box if it is checked.

If the box is already unchecked the problem lies elsewhere.

Let us know what you find.

Fast running out of ideas here :(

Is the installation of Office on the laptop fully updated - service packs, etc?

The only other suggestion I have is a repair of Office on the laptop - Help > Detect & Repair.
