I have ESET NOD32 AV Latest version 3.0.650.0 on an XP SP2 home edition.
I want to disable it before SP3 install. If I R click NOD32 in notification area
there is an option to disable, but when I reboot it loads again. There is no option to have it not load at startup. Does anyone know of a way to do this
    without unchecking everything in setup.

I was thinking about using Startup Monitor to uncheck
NOD32Antivirus\egui.exe Is there any reason why I shouldn't do it this way?
Task manager has egui.exe and ekrn.exe listed. Start Up Monitor & Winpatrol only have the egui.exe listed at startup HKLM/Run

FWIW I installed SP3 several times (RC1 & 2 and the final version) with the full NOD32 suite (Esset Smart Security) running, plus some other security apps - Counterspy and Win Patrol running with no issues whatsoever :)

Easiest route is to first download the free program "ROVO Uninstaller ". Then click on NOD32 and uninstall it. This program not only duplicates the functions in the add/remove in your control panel but in its second part it will highlight (so you can uninstall) all the bits and pieces the control panel route left behind. Of course you will have to re download NOD32 after you are finished with SP-3.

Yes that's one way of doing it. I have my NOD32 AV set up just the way I like it. :) Thanks for the link.

    Uninstall NOD32

This program includes its own uninstaller. To activate go to the add/remove function in your control panel. Click on uninstall button. A window will open and you'll find the uninstall button.

    Warnings on Revo!

Not because it is a bad program, on contrary it is one of the best if not the best.

But if you select advanced functions and use the Registry cleanup functions, to be safe only select the actual bold items even if you have to drill down the tree!

Yes Alicia NOD has its own uninstaller and Revo runs this uninstaller then does additional cleanup of files left on HD and in registry and removes them also.

    Much cleaner uninstall!

Some program uninstalls are very sloppy and leave all kinds of residues in the file system and registry. Norton and Mcafee are some of the worst. These are so sloppy that both Norton and Mcafee have Cleanup tools to use after you run the regular uninstall. And even after running these I myself can manually still find hundreds of files and regitry items left over.

Revo will not even completely remove these but will get more than most other uninstallers.

After cleanup, backups etc I installed SP3 using the 316MG downloaded installation file.

I disabled my firewall and NOD 32 AV. I also disabled many other programs not needed at startup with the Startup Monitor. SP3 installation went well. Whew.
