Hi, I have been having random slowdowns on my PC.
When I check task manager it shows using 99% of CPU,in processes there are 49 at idle??, is that normal?
what I find that one called " svchost.exe." is running flat out.( 98/99% and 88.600k) there is 4 of them called "svchost.exe " System ( that will be the only one running)
there is one with "Local Sevice" after it and one with "Network service" after it,
What is that file for , is it vital ?. some times it runs for 2 minutes and some time up to 5 mins,
when it is running everything is dead slow, then when it stops all is back to normal, it is usually only after start up.
    Help Please . Cheers Des.

    Hi Des,

3rd report of svchost and high cpu usage I've seen here today. Hmmmm
Did you upgrade to SP3 as well?

Download driver_service_info.exe, a utility I wrote, then run it when the svchost process is consuming the cpu.
Once opened, type S to gather service information, then A at the next prompt to gather Active service info.
When prompted, type Y to gather ServiceGroup and LoadOrderGroup info.
Please post the contents of the log that opens, and let me know the PID of the svchost consuming the cpu. You can get the PID from the Processes tab in the Task Manager. If it isn't showing the PID, click View>Select Columns and check the box for PID and click OK.
