Sometimes when I Right Click a Desktop Item the Menu comes up and locks up the computer. I can bring up the Task Manager, with no tasks running. When I close Task Manager the Right Click menu disappears and the lockup is still there. The mouse pointer will move. Left Click, and Right Click, and nothing happens. Ctrl-Alt-Delete allows for a restart. This does not happen every day.

I have disabled many non-Micro$oft Context Menu items. One that is called "Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper ",type "Browser Help Object" will not disable. It may take several days before I will know if this helps. I wonder if it will be safe to leave them disabled.

No, it won't hurt a thing. You'll just not see them listed on your context menu, that's all. Disable all the non-MS ones that you can. They are the ones that have the colored band superimposed on them.

    Good luck with the hunt.

You should get rid of that hog, and install FoxIt.

Desktop icon layout is used to keep the icons in place. Disabling that lets the icons move around the desktop. I enabled it again and will see what happens.

What I mean by Desktop Icon Layout is that it is an application that puts "Save Desktop Icon layout" and "Restore Desktop Icon Layout" on the My Computer and Recycle Bin Right click Menus. This is an easy way to keep icons in place. I have been using this for years without problems.

I know, I use it too, but does it have to do with original problem?
Are you asking, if you can enable that particular context item?
If so, go ahead. I doubt, this particular item is causing your problem.

I have enabled Desktop Icon Layout. Will see what happens, if it does.

Today there has been no lockup, so I will Enable another extension and see what happens.

I spoke too soon. This morning I had a lockup. I have now redisabled the second one and will see what happens. It is called "IE7 Pro BHO ", "Browser Helper Object ". Whatever that means.
I checked IE7 Tools and it says "IE7 Pro BHO hasn't been loaded ".

    I don't use IE much, but IE7Pro add-on (http://www.ie7pro.com/) looks pretty useful.
You may want to make sure, you have the latest version.
Or, if you really don't use it, uninstall.

I enabled "IE7 Pro BHO" in ShellExView and Renamed "IEPro" to "IEProOld" In Program Files thus stopping it. If I want it later I can reinstall it, and maybe that will cure the problem. Will see what happens.
(I do have the latest version. Will download the latest for a possible reinstall).

I enabled 2 more in ShellExView and today I had another lockup. Will disable 1 and see what happens.
