I just replaced my ancient UPS(couldn't replace battery on this one) with a APC Smart-UPS 700, which I bought used from a buddy.
Software was not included, APC website doesn't have one either. I know W2KPro has a driver for it.
The serial interface cable is connected to COM2 .
After numerous attempts of installing I keep getting the message "The UPS service has lost communications with the UPS "

I tried using COM1 but I get the same message. What can I do to remedy this problem and establish a connection with this UPS?

    oidar,
I've got an APC 650 and Win2k recognized it right off the bat. Have you tried uninstalling the ups? Uninstall, then reboot and make sure it is not listed in the device manager. Then re-install your unit, make sure all your connections are tight. Hopefully Windows will recognize it correctly. Mine is on com 1.
Just a side note... APC doesn't actually offer any software for Win 2k. Their 'business' software works with Win2k, but it's a fairly large program, it uses alot of memory and it is overkill for home use, but it does allow you to connect and disconnect the ups with the program. HTH

    double post, not intentional

    Dear admin (Arie),

It was not my intention to double post. I was not sure whether my post belonged in the hardware thread or in the W2k thread. I just played it safe. Be assured that it won't happen again.

    Thanx MrB

I tried it but it still gives me the same message. I'll try replacing the serial connection cord with a new one. maybe than it will work
