I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 running WinXP Pro Service Pack 2.

This just recently started after installing a program. (which I uninstalled soon afterwards) I partitioned my harddrive into two parts. C: for Windows and D: for my personal data.

When I double click on the D: drive to access it, the WinXP Search feature starts. It does not allow me to access the drive. I have rebooted a few times, checked disk, etc. When I double click on the C: drive, same thing. The search feature pops up. I cannot access Program files, Windows folder nothing.

When I right click on the Drive and select properties, I get this for target location for the C: drive.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Any ideas on how to fix this?

No longer need the go around

    Thank You! It does work!
Ever since I installed Office 98 for Windows 95 Developer Edition on my Windows XP Media Center Operating System, I have had the same situation, getting a Windows search window. I have been right clicking on a drive and selecting Explore to get around the problem. Now it is fixed! Thanks Again.

For sake of the archives, I'll include some more info on that problem. There is another fix available if ever the previously mentioned one fails.

FYI, This quirk is most often caused by opening Explorer or My Computer and clicking on the Tools > Folder Options > File Types > File Folder and selecting "Advanced" then clicking OK instead of Cancel. Even though you have only looked and made no changes, changes will nevertheless be made IF you have selected "Advanced" and IF you then click OK. To avoid this, always click "Cancel" when you don't intend to change things.
