Sorry if I put this in the wrong area.

Everytime I play a DVD I hear static sound and the real audio is barely neglible.

I have tried a different sound card and DVD burner and no change.

The OS is Windows XP HE.

The sound is fine if you play off of the hard drive?

    Any ideas?

Are the DVD rented type or home made where the original recording might be bad?

Something I would investigate are the CODECs. Are you using Windows Media Player or a specialised DVD player like Power DVD which is what I use. Power DVD is not free to download, but usually comes with a new DVD drive, graphics card, etc.

There is a CODECs pack here:

    Thanks Matt,

    I will check it out.

Well, I can actually say it's fixed. No static at all..

How? I don't know.... I left it on over night, went back at it in the morning and on the bottom right Windows had said it had downloaded some updates??? Rebooted and the sound is perfect...

I wish I had more info but that is all I have.

Thank you all for your advice

    Wil

:D I know the feeling Wil! A similar thing happened to me this week and I could only put it down to an update as well.

Why do we bother worrying about things not working? :D
