I have an Epson Perfection 1670 scanner. It has worked fine for several years. Recently it has stopped working all of the sudden. I don't know of any changes to my system or anything that might have led to this. When I try to scan something, I get a message saying that the scanner cannot find a document, even though there is a picture on the scanner. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the scanner and also tried updating drivers from the Epson website. Nothing seems to work. The timing on this is a little bit of a problem, as my wife is trying to scan numerous photos of my son through the years to show during his high school graduation party in a couple of weeks. Any help will be appreciated.

Your best option is to try the scanner with another computer.

I apologize for being dense, but what would I accomplish by trying the scanner with another computer? It seems like the sort of thing one would do to see if the problem is with the computer or with the scanner. If the scanner used to work with this computer and now doesn't work, wouldn't that indicate that the scanner has a problem?

I'm willing to try this idea anyway, when I get a chance, because if I knew what I was doing, I wouldn't have to ask so many questions on this board.

    Thanks for the reply.

Setting it up on another computer will tell you if the problem is with the scanner itself.

If it works fine on another computer, it may be a problem with the drivers on your computer or maybe more likely, the software that runs the drivers. You say you uninstalled the "scanner ", did you go to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) and look for any listings for Epson? If uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers/software, does not seem to work, you can try booting into Safe Mode and running the uninstall there.
