desktop screen moved 2/3 to the left

Hi there, I am trying to help a friend with her laptop, she is not sure how or what has cause this, but her desktop has gone really small, moving over to the left hand side of the screen, and leaving a black panel on the right side of the screen, I have done everything i can think of as in adjusting the display settings, system restore wouldn't work at all even in safe mode, the manual hasn't been much help, thought it may have been a hotkey to change it, like how there is the buttons on the monitors. Anyway she ended up doing a full recovery But its still the same. Any ideas please, its a ACER ASPIRE 3620 series laptop, windows xp sp2. thanks in advance

If you've done a full recovery that reverted the install back to how it was when your friend purchased it. I.E no customization, modifications or updates and you had to setup the user account again etc, then it's likely (guaranteed) to be a hardware issue.

You could try updating the Graphics driver. But I'm clutching at straws for suggestions.
