It's weired that from My Computer that double clicking a local drisk, say C: or D:, will open an "Open With" window, instead of getting into the drive.

The current workaround is right-clicking the local disk and select Explore.

Once get into the local disk, I can double-click any folder without a problem.

    How can it be fixed?

Try the link I posted in this recent thread.

Another fix that has worked for others is to check for a file named autorun.inf in the root of your drives, delete all occurences. This is usually the work of a virus and you should take further steps to prevent it from returning. Possibly post up in the Security forum here if you find that file on the root.

First of all, I received a reply from Microsoft. They advised me:

From your explaination, the symptom looks like a malware infection. Kindly download and run the tool below:

I have used comprehensive scans from Windows Defender (most updated), and also used Norton 360 version 2 detail scan. No virus or any malicous codes found.

Why? Are these Windows Defender and NOrton 360 ineffective?

Second, I checked the autorun.inf (it's a simple text file, with just three lines in my case.)

Microsoft also told me to download and run the winupsecureWinXP.bat
    ==========
    1. Kindly download the file from the link below:
    http://cid-eeda97088e7f172e.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/MS SEA Files/winupsecureWinXP.zip
    2. Download it to your desktop and unzip the content
    3. Run the file winupsecureWinXP.bat and follow the on-screen instruction
    4. Wait until the process is complete and restart the pc
    5. Retry Windows update again

Yes. After running these two programs, double-clicking the local drives work back.

Is it wasting money on Norton 360? I can't complain Windows Defender, as it is free of charge (though you need genuine WIndows to download it).
