Please help me out, before I start losing my mind.
    Here's the problem.

A network with 2 computers, one desktop with a cable and one wireless laptop (through a seperate access point) is plugged into a router, which is plugged into a modem. The desktop PC is running Vista home basic, the laptop is Vista Ultimate. both are relatively clean installs, so no large Norton packs messing up the system

The desktop PC is having a problem, where it will suddenly decide to stop opening websites. It will still be connectable on the network, it can connect to the laptop. Here's the strange thing though, the PC can also ping websites, use MSN and recieve data from timeservers. It just won't load any websites. When using either IE7, Firefox or Opera, typing in any url (or IP) will result in an endless loading screen, with no progress.

During this problem, the laptop can still perfectly connect to any website.

    Things i've allready checked:
The DNS is fixed, and similar to the laptop, which can connect. Our ISP doesn't like dynamic DNS, which work very sporadically and is officially not recommended
Pinging to www.google.com will result in a correct return of about 13ms.
Both a Fixed IP and Dynamic IP will result in the same problem, changing it doesn't solve it.
There is no IP conflict on the network
The laptop is connecting to the correct network ;)
Resetting the router did not solve the problem.
Turning off the windows firewall and Spybot did not solve the problem
Clearing out the HOSTS file did nothing

Here's the kicker though. Occasionally, rebooting the PC will solve the issue, but not always. It never lasts more then about 3 or 4 hours though, but a reboot is needed to "fix" it.

Please help, while my sanity holds.

    Hi Alcari

    Naw..... not Vista:D

We are going to give your network and winsock settings an Enema.

Paste the lines below to an open CMD prompt 1 at a time. Depending or your current settings you could get errors but that is OK for now just coninue on.
    --------------------------------
    netsh interface ip delete arpcache

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /release *

    ipconfig /renew *

    nbtstat -RR

    netsh winsock reset catalog
    --------------------------------

Reboot and test here before continuing.

    Alright, I've entered them all.
Though of course releasing the fixed IP gave an error.

I hope it works, I'll have to wait and see.
If it worked, you have my everlasting thanks.
If not, i'll be back in a few days.
