Each time I mess with my phone modem files I get blasted out of my seat. The volume goes right to the top by default and I have to bring it down.

    Hi, sussertown. :)

The modem speaker's volume or some other speaker's volume?

What are the various hardware specifications for your computer (including brands and model numbers)?

    What version of Windows XP?

What are the details about changes are you making to your "modem files "?

I just took out my LUcent and installed a Conexant modem. I have a typical realtek audio card with no issues. I have a MS keyboard that just today is giving me trouble. I will be installing a new keyboard with volume control. Maybe that will fix it. But, when I load my TRX recorder software to record a phone call, the volume goes to the top.

Now that the modem is the default recorder there is sound coming from my speakers all the time. In order to use the phone recorder software the default recorder seems to have to be the modem.

Since you have not addressed all of my questions directly (with specifics requested), my research is general in nature.

Do the modems you are experimenting with have the required features specified at NCH Software (i.e., 100% TAPI compliant voice modem)?

Have you also installed an appropriate call recording adapter?

The modem was recommended by NCH. It works and the software works. But the generic speakers I own, which are otherwise very good, sound like they do not turn off. When I set the recording default recorder to the realtek, there is no sound coming from the speakers. Right now there is a minute static comeing from the speakers. If I reset the default recorder to the realtek sound card, then the NCH does not record with incoming call.
