Install updates and shutdown - not working

Since about 3 days ago when I shut down the computer it reads: "Installing updates and shutdown, do not switch off or unplug ... ..."
When I come back 10 or 12 hours later it hasn't shut down and the same message is showing. To use the computer I have to pull the plug and restart.

Now I find that I have 5 Read Only folders with names similar to this: 0e0fdb3afee9a2324188d98b2e8e0b dated about the time of rebooting this morning which appear to contain Windows Install data files which I cannot delete. My usable disc space has halved from 12Gb to 6Gb.

Can anyone help?

Go to the Microsoft update site and manually update your OS, that should get rid of the problem.

Backup anything of any importance before you attempt it.
