After installing SP3 and Mcafee Groupshield 5.21 on our Win 2K/SBS system our newmail function has stopped working. We have tried uninstall and reinstall of both softwares in different combinations to no avail. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance: Dennis

What type of mail are you talking about. SBS2k comes with Exchange 2000, but it could be configured 2 different ways. Either using DNS and SMTP to mail or POP3 connector?
After you tried to run the configure wizard again to see if that resolves the issue?
If you are running E2k with DNS / SMTP mail, what do you SMTP logs report? If you are running the POP3 connector, it also generates a log that will tell you what is going on.

    Newmail

    Hi Eric:

    Thanks for the response.

This the newmail component of CDONTS which sends e-mail directly from a ASP page with the proper script, such as the confirmation e-mail that the customer will receive following an order.

The above was working fine prior to the installation of the service pack for SBS2K and stopped functioning immediately after the installation. The error message is:

    800a0046 Permission_denied

which refers to the line in the scripts that send the mail.

A search in support.microsoft.com resulted in:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q286301

The above page describes the symptoms, but I cannot perform the fix, since the area that needs to be changed is not present in the window that I see. Perhaps it is because it refers to NT4.0 instead on win2k.

We changed the APPLICATION PROTECTION setting in IIS for the website from NORMAL to LOW and now it is working, but I am not sure if this the right way.

    Thanks,
    Dennis
